Headache
Cephalalgia is the medical term for headache. It is one of the most common ailments characterized by pain in the head and neck area. Oftentimes it comes as a symptom of an underlying medical condition in the body.Causes
Allergies from consuming alcohol, cheese, chocolate, liver, milk and other milk products; and mild disorders such as diarrhea and sneezing unobtrusively causes headache.
Other conditions which triggers the onset of headache are eyestrain, emotional stress, hangover, low blood sugar level, nutritional deficiency, tension and intoxicated body system.
Home Remedies
Lemon: Mix lemon juice extracted from 3-4 lemon slices on a cup of tea. Apply lemon plaster on the forehead using a paste out of lemon crusts. It will help heal headaches caused by heat. Another effective alternative is to place fresh lemon rinds on the temple.
Apple: Remove inner portion of an apple and skin it. Add a little salt and take it every morning on an empty stomach for 1 week.
Henna: Rub vinegar on henna flowers and place it on the forehead. It will relief headaches caused by the intense heat of the sun.
Cinnamon: Make a paste by mixing cinnamon with water. Apply on the temple and forehead to relieve headache caused by overexposure to cold air.
Marjoram: Make a marjoram infusion and take it as a tea to relieve headache caused by nervousness.
Rosemary: Boil a handful of rosemary herbs in 1 liter of water. Inhale the steam coming from this mixture by trapping the heat using a towel over the head. This will relieve headaches caused by colds. Repeat until necessary.
Diets
Proper nutrition, regular physical exercise, and positive mental exercises are the best way to prevent headache.
To start with, undergo a short fasting, consisting only of citrus fruit juices diluted in water. Take it every 2 hours from 8am – 8pm daily. Afterwards, eat foods that are easily digestible. For breakfast, eat fresh or dried fruits. For lunch, eat protein-rich foods. For dinner, consume cereals, whole wheat bread, potatoes and rice or any starchy foods along with salads.
Drink plenty of plain water everyday. You also add a teaspoon of honey in a glass of warm water during winter and cold water during summer. Do it first thing in the morning.
Avoid using condiments, eating oily foods, drinking sour buttermilk and adding spices to your meal.
Other suggestions
Enema: Administer a cleansing enema using water at a temperature of 37ºC.
Cold packs or cold compress: Apply a cold pack on the throat, or apply cold compress on the head with a temperature of 4.4ºC – 15.6ºC , or even an alternate spinal compress to relieve oneself of headache.
Hot applications: A hot towel application at the nape of the neck is also useful in treating headache. Also, apply a hot fomentation on the abdomen before bedtime for cases of headaches caused by stomach or liver upsets.
Foot bath: Fill the tub or bucket with hot water of 40ºC – 45ºC. Do this for 15 nights before bedtime. Continue this treatment for 2-3 weeks.
Yoga: Practice yoga kriyas such as jalneti and kunjal; pranayamas such as anulomaviloma, shitali and sitkari; and asanas such as uttanpadasana, sarvangasana, paschimottanasana, halasana, and shavasana.
